Truck Accidents
Atlanta, Georgia Personal Injury Lawyer
Georgia's roads are notoriously dangerous. Georgia Tech recently performed a traffic fatality
study that revealed the state's rural two-lane highways are the deadliest roads in the nation.
Accidents involving commercial trucks unfortunately have serious consequences in most
instances. Very often, people die when a crash involves a big rig.
Why? Trucks on the road usually carry a load-weight in excess of 75,000 pounds: their weight
alone can result in devastation when there is a crash. Sometimes those loads are dangerous,
too: gasoline and other hazardous chemicals are commonly transported by trucks across the
country. Wrecks with trucks carrying this cargo can be extremely lethal.
To meet their deadline, drivers can suffer from fatigue or neglect to keep the truck adequately
serviced. Bad weather increases the risk of a slide, as does bad or inconsiderate driving by
others on the road. For instance, it is unwise and unsafe for a small, compact car to slam on its
brakes when a large semi-tractor trailer truck is within ten feet behind it.
When a crash occurs, it is very important to determine the reasons that it happened. If the truck
driver is legally negligent, then the driver, the trucking company, the owner of the cargo, stores,
and even governmental agencies may be responsible for injuries to persons and property
resulting from the wreck.
If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident with an 18-wheeler, tractor-trailer truck, or
other large truck, it is your responsibility to determine the nature and amount of your damages,
as well as all those that share responsibility for the accident. They may collectively be required
to compensate you for losses including wrongful death, disfigurement, emotional distress, pain
and suffering, lost wages, and lost future earning capacity.
